In the Pink city – Jaipur:

Traveling by road is a kind of adventure. So I rented a car while going to Jaipur from Delhi. It was a 261 km journey. On my way to Jaipur I couldn’t see any farms or green anywhere near the road. It was like traveling through the desert. I reached my destination at 12 noon. The temperature was even hotter than in Delhi. With the assistance from a guide I entered Jaipur which is known as the pink city. Later I will tell you why it is called as pink city.

After having a cool fruit mix along with a jaipur’s essence, I along with my guide went to a palace in the city. The city was full of old architectural buildings. The palace we visited was vast but simple. Then I visited jantar mantar a research building built during 18th century. After that I went to ambur fort. This fort was situated at the top of a rough mountainous region. It was built with red stones and marbles. The fort looked majestic at the top of the mountain. There were two huge cannons at the fort which was built for its defense purposes. On the bottom edge of the fort there was a water saving pond which was built for saving huge amount of water from rain for even hundreds of years.

As the temperature started rising to its peak I started to wind up my journey in Jaipur and head for my next destination Amritsar. Jaipur was a city of its own culture. During 18th century, people of Jaipur decorated roses throughout the city of Jaipur to welcome the prince. From then on it was called as the pink city.

Taj mahal-symbol of uniqueness:

It was a hot sunny day I reached Agra from New Delhi after three and half hours travel by road. Even though after traveling for more than three hours with the temperature above 35 degrees Celsius I was not really exhausted instead I was excited about seeing one of the wonders of the world. It was a dream of my life time to see all the wonders of the world and I am happy to have started by beginning it with the symbol of love. When I reached, I thought to myself that I should not be wasting even a minute admiring the beauty so I started to walk faster. When I reached the garden I saw innumerable people waiting in a queue to enter the monument. Without hesitation I joined the line. On the line to the wonder I met a guy named Albert. We had a short conversation on our way and during our conversation he gave me more information about the monuments history in relation to the Agra fort. When I asked him about his reason of visit, he said that he was a student doing a research on historic places.

By the time we entered the tomb we both became friends. We entered and my friend pointed me the direction of the tomb. I started to go in his direction after some people cleared the place I was able to see the tomb. When I was close enough to touch, I saw a way to the underground. Both the tombs were identical, anybody who were there would say that it was unbelievable to build such a fascinating and magnificent building for a tomb. I saw the whole marble beauty was decorated inside with inscriptions and drawings throughout the walls. It was an amazing wonder built with marble. Most of the monuments have inscriptions and decorations like tajmahal but they lack in some essence which this monument has. This essence can only be felt and cannot be explained. This makes Tajmahal a symbol of both love and uniqueness.

After spending most of my time in viewing the beauty from the taj garden I said good bye to my friend and started off to my next destination. If I hadn’t made any plans for my tour I would have stayed in Agra for a few more days and enjoyed viewing this beautiful monument with my friend but I had to go. Thinking that I would be back to see them again I left Agra and started for my next destination Jaipur.

Delhi-Historic capital

I am going to share my experiences on my Delhi tour with you. I visited Delhi during summer of 2000. As we all know India is a socialist country and world’s populous democracy. But India is also known for its historical background. During my visit in Delhi I realized that this country is not only known for its democracy but also for its historic places and monuments. I reached Delhi and stayed there for about three days. You may ask me what is there in Delhi to see for three days. But I have to say on those three days I was fully occupied in visiting temples, palaces, many more monumental places.

I reached Delhi in the early hours and checked in my suite. I took off to tour Delhi after a short nap. While checking in, the receptionist gave me a book which had the names of the places to be visited in Delhi. I took a cab and reached Qutb minar. When I reached my destination I was able to see the tallest tower. To me it was like a watch tower and it was built with red stones and marbles. This tower was standing majestic among the ruins. The courtyard of qutb minar also has a mosque and an iron pillar. This iron pillar has a specialty of not getting rusted even after many hundreds of years after its establishment. After capturing the monuments through my video cam I started for the red fort.  Red fort was built with red stones and it was a fortress for the mughal emperors. Qutb minar and red fort are the places you have to watch out for when you are touring Delhi. You should not miss these two places when you are in the capital.

Other places in Delhi to be visited are India gate, Rajghat- memorial of Mahatma Gandhi, Rastrapati bhavan, lotus temple. Delhi is not only the capital for the Indian government but it is also the capital for the rulers of ancient India. From my tour I believe that Delhi is one of the historic capitals in the world.
